Wine Down Wednesday ~ Grilling Gurus

Our October Wine Down Wednesday was such a fun event. Rob and Michelle Stokes of Malheur River Meats supplied a wonderful,  uncured bratwurst and amazing pork sirloin chops for our guests to enjoy. Rob spoke about his family’s ranch and how important it is to them to treat their livestock in the most humane and sustainable way.

After guests had a chance to ask questions of Rob,  Nate Lindskoog of The Tower Grill took over the grilling. Nate also talked about plating the finished product and jazzed up the pork with grilled acorn squash and fried sage leaves. Yum!

Our second annual Winemaker’s Dinner was held September 21st and was an enchanting evening of perfect weather, a beautiful sunset and delicious food. Our winemaker, Greg Koenig, and chef, Aaron Horsewood, made the night an event to remember by speaking to the guests about how the wine and food complemented each other. The highlight of the evening for Williamson Vineyards was the release of our first vintage of Malbec.

The Idaho Wine Commission hosted a Wine Industry Bootcamp on September 24th and 25th.  The purpose of the bootcamp was to introduce local wine stewards, restaurant staff, media, and tourism agencies to Idaho wineries and educate them about the Snake River Valley AVA. The bootcamp started bright and early  with a stop in our vineyard. We greeted the campers with croissants and a glass of Riesling. After a few moments of introduction, we plunged into the rows of grapes to talk about our growing practices and pick grapes. While Mike and Patrick discussed soils and brix levels, guests got to sip on 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and the brand new 2016 Malbec. Click here for full article.

Savor Idaho was a great success, it seems to sell out earlier every year. We always have fun and enjoyed our experience this year too. We were pouring our Harvest Moon Red, Dry Riesling and Dry Rosé. The Boise Weekly was there and they loved our Harvest Moon Red! Click the link for their full article.

Calling all Soup Lovers!
Do you have a killer recipe for clam chowder? Is your minestrone mind blowing? Is your goulash great at parties? If so, we want to feature your culinary creation at our annual soup contest! We are looking for a few soup savants who are willing to submit their signature soup to be judged during our Fall Barrel Tasting Weekend, November 24 – 26th. We limit it to three soups per day and wine tasting guests will sample each soup and vote for their favorite. The creator of the top-rated soup for each day goes home with a bottle of Williamson wine! Let us know which day you would like to enter (Nov. 24th, 25th or 26th) and the type of soup you will be bringing. Deadline to enter is November 10th.

Years ago we had hired a food truck to come out and cook for our guests during one of our biggest weekends of the year. Tragedy struck and the food truck had to back out last minute. Gasp! However, our amazing staff said “Never fear!” and offered to cook some soups to sooth and warm the hungry crowd. Naturally, a little friendly competition bubbled up when guests started naming their favorite soups. The following year the staff started taking “official” votes to see whose soup was superior. Over the years family, friends and wine club members have offered to get in on the fun!

Please email us at wine@willorch.com or call the tasting room (208) 459-7333 to sign up your favorite soup!
